Fighting Fate: Escape From the Ashes

After the devastating fire that destroyed the group's new home, they venture out to find a friend of Sonya's who might be able to save her after she inhaled too much smoke. They must locate the healer before it's too late. With Sonya getting weaker, finding them is the number one priority. Will they overcome the obstacles to come and heal their friend, or will they face a worse fate than what lies ahead?

Gender: Male
Physical Description: Tall, broad shouldered antelope with sand colored fur, a white underbelly, chest and tail, two white stripes across his neck and a black muzzle. He has a black nose, black hooves, amber gold eyes and black horns.
Personality Traits: Extremely friendly, flirty, clever, somewhat brave, kind to others

As the sun rose, a still figure sat perched on a high branch of a barren tree, another slightly larger figure silhouetted beside him. At the base of the tree, two forms were curled up near each other. The smaller bird, as it was, stretched his wings and shifted on the branch, turning to look at the sunrise. The journey they were on had seemed to only have just begun, for where they were headed he knew not yet. The fate of his friend, asleep on the ground below, lay with her memories, far to the east. One of the forms on the ground shifted, mumbling something, and then shuddered, letting out a short burst of hacking coughs. The bird shook his head slowly. Sonya's cough had only seemed to be getting worse, and her voice fading. The young antelope was suffering and Manik could tell so. They needed to get moving.

The hawk looked down at her friend as she the coughing began once more. She could tell she was getting worse. She stretched her wings, shifting her weight a bit before speaking wuietly. "We should get moving. She's getting worse, and she hasn't been ill for long. I'm afraid of what will happen if we wait too long," she murmured to Manik, staring down at the antelope on the ground.

Manik looked at Ninx. "You ready to move out quickly?" He asked, flexing his talons, ready to leave.

Levi, who had been sleeping peacefully beside Sonya, raised his head suddenly when she coughed. He looked over at her, his eyes filled with concern. "How are you doing?" he asked anxiously.

Sonya shugged. "Okay, guess," She croaked, standing. "We should get moving," she said. "The sooner I get us there, the sooner I can get better," she reasoned.

Ninx nodded to Manik, and in agreement to what Sonya was saying. "Best to go now," she replied, looking at the falcon beside her, then Sonya. "Ready to go?"

Levi nodded, scrambling to his hooves. He shook himself, looking around. "Alright, lead the way. Lean on me if you need to." He offered, nodding to her.

Manin took off, circling once before flying back and forth over top of Sonya, waiting for her to move out.

Sonya nodded to Levi, smiling, and trotted towards the rising sun, the sparse forest they were in giving way to rolling grassy plains.

Levi smiled back. He trailed after Sonya, keeping a close eye in case she tripped or stumbled. He looked up at the birds flying overhead, before turning back to the path ahead.

[Lolz such exciting. Hmm, what should happen? River crossing? Buzzard attack? Rabbit family crossing the road?]

Ninx took off, circling slowly as to let Sonya lead the way, keeping an eye on her, though if she fell there wasn't much she could do anyways. She expected Levi to help her.

Manik glanced down at Sonya and then back at the skies. He spotted three black dots in the distance, quite high up, circling lazily, and frowned. Buzzards, no doubt. He sighed. Buzzards tended to be annoying at least and dangerous at most. They rarely attacked living things, preferring to feast on carrion, but in flocks of three or more they sometimes terrorized smaller birds. Such as Manik.

Ninx watched the birds in the distance, giving a short sigh. Buzzards. The birds were pretty annoying at times, though they never really gave her any trouble. She looked down at the antelope, a bit worried for Sonya, but knowing they didn't attack living things as big as her.

As Levi trotted along, he looked up. He too saw the black shapes in the distance, and frowned. He narrowed his eyes, but he couldn't make out what they were. He looked up at Ninx and Manik. "What are those?" he shouted.

"Buzzards," Manik said in an annoyed tone, not at Levi but at the buzzards. He muttered something as the black dots grew bigger. They were obviously coming towards them. He wasn't really afraid, seeing as they were traveling in a group, and Ninx could handle herself, as well as the antelope. He was more worried about delays keeping Sonya from getting healing soon.

Ninx flapped her wings, flying a bit faster to get closer to the scavengers. She gave a loud screech, warning them not to come any closer. Sonya couldn't wait for help.

Levi turned his gaze back to Sonya. Uh oh, he thought. He didn't know much about buzzards, but he did know they liked to prey on other birds. He knew if the buzzards went after Ninx and Manik, he wouldn't be able to do much on the ground. He huffed, slightly worried and slightly frustrated.

One of the buzzards let out a loud caw, heading straight for them despite the screeching hawk.

Sonya picked up the pace a little bit, frightened slightly at the aggression of the scavengers.

Ninx narrowed her eyes, heading toward the large bird, screeching again. Buzzards. They aren't smart, she thought in annoyance.

Manik followed Ninx, letting out a loud shriek.

The buzzard faltered, but continued on as its companions followed it.

Sonya died of fear winced at Manik's shriek and slowed, looking upwards the the birds and not wanting to trip and fall like usual.

Levi's eyes immediately darted up at the sound of the screeches. Wonderful, he thought with a sigh. Perfect timing for brainless clumps of feathers to attack. He caught up to Sonya.

"Hey, they're okay," He assured her. "Just keep your eyes ahead. You're the priority. Ninx and Manik are tough as lions, and can take care of those buzzards easily."

Ninx shrieked again, threatening the attackers and she grew closer, readying her talons to attack if they didn't retreat, steadying her wings.

Sonya nodded and kept walking, gaining some confidence in Manik and Ninx.

Manik caught up next to Ninx, glancing over at her. "Let's give these dummies a lesson," he suggested, flexing his talons.

The buzzards screeched, coming closer.

Ninx nodded, looking over to him. "Show them who not to mess with." She flexed her talons as the first one came closer, letting out another shriek and flying at it with outstretched talons to grab the buzzard.

The buzzard shrieked, veering slightly, and flapped its wings madly. Manik swerved at one of the other buzzards, raking his talons across it's greasy, thickly feathered wing.

Ninx gave a short hiss, grabbing a wing as it moved, talons piercing the skin and letting go, watching the bird.
