Shrouded deep in forest mists
A land forgotten that yet persists
Steeped with beauty, though danger lies
A land of blossoms, thin of guise
A simple folk, both here and there
Lend their hearts to the traveler's stare
From hill to hill, a Master taught
An ancient art, nearly all had forgot
Now harmony, peace, and honor reign
No room for shadows, strife, or pain
Three heroes venture here at last
To learn of calm, and mend their past

-Master Lao

This is the rp page for all posts in the Land of Blossoms. Cut off from the events of the world through mist and fog at every border, this land is populated by a variety of animals from all across Asia at the time of the Human's fall. When the Gryphons came in the first age, the creatures there begged to be kept away from the strife of the coming world, sensing the approaching boundary wars between the different species. Dalkota himself cast the spell that separated the Land of Blossoms from the rest of the Howls. While not entirely impenetrable, this mist had done its job of keeping out nearly all would-be adventurers from entering the land. The people within, with no reason for fighting, have grown in their seclusion to understand the finer points of life, and in so doing have developed a deep and lasting connection to the nature around them. Over time they developed a philosophy they call The Path of Balance. The Path dictates the personal duties of all who live there, guiding them to be helpful to others, and achieve True Harmony. Once one has walked the Path of Balance for many years, their understanding of the fine interactions between all living things grows to a point most call True Harmony. In short it means Balance of Nature, Self, Home, Friends, and Foes. Mastery of these five key traits elevates one into positions of great wisdom, who guide others along the Path. Masters of Harmony, through decades of teaching, are able to tap into an almost mythical magic on rare occasions. Believed to be some residual of the Gryphons' meddling with the world, this power is used only by the wisest of Masters in times of great need or healing. It is believed that all who walk the Path of Balance may one day Master the magic of Harmony, but in the current age there is only a handful of Masters skilled enough to use it. One such Master, in the small village of Li'ming, awakes to find two strangers dazed in his carrot field...

Finnican squinted his eyes against the sudden brightness as the physical effects of the Rift faded. He lifted a wing against the sun above. He blinked his eyes several times, and with one glance to the side-

"WHAT THE-?!?!"

Shrieking out his surprise, he fell backwards on his rump into the dirt. He whipped his head one way and the other, taking in his new surroundings in shock.

"We were just-! Where are we?!" he then looked towards the structure to see the bear waving at them. "WHAT IS THAT?!" he yelled as he pointed him.

The panda grinned with friendliness as he pushed himself up on all fours and started towards the birds, his red and gold cloak clung to his back as he shuffled forward, off the porch and onto the dirt of the carrot field. With a hearty laugh, he answered Fin's question before Kale could open his beak. "Hello! ... I am Master Lao, and you two are very lost!"

Kale stared up at the approaching bear, his eyes flickering to the side like he wanted to run. "... Well, we're- "

"Not from here!" Master Lao finished, settling back down on his rump a few feet away from the falcons, at the edge of the tilled soil.

Kale blinked, and nodded after a moment. "Uh, yeah, and-"

"You don't know where you are!" Master Lao continued for him, still smiling.

"A-Are you a mind reader?" Finnican squeaked with a shaky voice, sliding towards Kale as if considering to hide behind the other Falcon.

"Oh no," Master Lao replied with a hearty chuckle. "But you are two birds with patterns and talons never before seen in this land, you're standing in the middle of my carrot field at sunset, and neither of you have noticed the very common fire ants about to nibble on your feet."

Kale watched the Panda's happy grin for another moment before he registered what he was talking about, feeling the prickling along his talons. He glanced down in time to see a stream of little red bugs swarming around his talon-tips.
"WHOA!"
The falcon dove backwards, half-climbing over Fin and pushing him out of the way as a means of escape.

(I love this panda XD)

Finnican, mirroring Kale to the point where they simultaneously looked down at their talons, let out a squawk and yanked a talon off the ground. This left only one talon to balance on as Kale climbed over him. Swaying violently back and forth, flailing the wing that wasn't pinned to his side by the other falcon, Fin fell at the push. In order to avoid the fire ants, he fell right on a row of carrots and then rolled into the irrigation ditch beside it. Imagining the fire ants were making their way towards him, and feeling his feathers crawl even though they weren't on him, he wriggled on the ground for a second, finally rolled to his talons on top of more carrots, and then goes in the direction of the panda. He dropped to the ground just outside the field, his dirtied feathers bristled. His breathing labored, he just stared forward with wide eyes.

At the same time as Fin's struggle, Kale had used the other falcon as a springboard to flutter himself up and into the air. With a panicked series of flaps and struggling, he crashed to a landing on the other side of the panda. His feathers gave him the appearance that he was nearly double his previous size as they puffed up in terror. Kale glanced around him in all directions, studying the ground for any sign of the tiny bugs he believed would consume him.

Master Lao continued his light chuckling, shaking his head as he turned to each of the birds one by one. "Well you certainly have speed on your side! That is good! Very good! But you shouldn't worry about those little bugs-- they're a great help. I could explain back in the house if you want. You seem stressed, and I have a lot of food for sharing."

Kale stared back at the panda, pupils still small in fear "... How are they any help? They're ants! They're tiny- and creepy- and bitey- and- "

The last part was directed at Kale, after he had moved close enough to yell that in the other falcon's face. But he looked more terrorized than angry. In fact, the face he was making, though serious to him, would look almost comedic to others.

He almost wanted to remind Fin that they literally just finished eating, but seeing the bird's fluffed out feathers and crazed look, Kale decided to just go with it. "Uh... L- Master Lao was your name? We would greatly appreciate some shelter. An-and maybe an explanation on how we got here?"

Kale looked to Finnican to get his opinion while the panda rumbled and nodded. "Oh yes, good! You must try our dumplings! My village supplies nearly a third of the dumplings the palace receives, and for good reason! We have the best ones!"

Without waiting for the birds to follow, Lao began making his way back to the lantern-lit home on the hill.

Finnican stepped away from Kale as he spoke, taking a moment to breathe in deeply and let his feathers settle. He nodded in agreement with Kale, also wanting to know how they had gotten there.

"Um...W-What are dumplings?" he asked, taking hesitant steps forward before following after the panda. The way the panda spoke about these dumplings made them sounds edible, delicious even, which caught the bird's interest. The fact that he had just finished eating didn't even cross his mind.

A few whirlwind hours later, Kale flopped his head onto the very soft, very strange 'pillow' pile that was afforded to him as a makeshift nest. Since sunset, Kale and Finnican had been invited into Master Lao's cozy home, where over a shared bowl of dumplings (that Fin ate most of) the birds had discussed with the panda everything about their situation. While the panda had no idea how they came to the Land of Blossoms, he recognized why. Kale did not quite grasp what the panda meant when he told them they were in need of his teachings, but he remained as positive as he could. Master Lao explained that the best way to get back home would be to accomplish whatever task sent them there to begin with. Kale had drawn the conclusion that whenever they had learned all that Lao could teach them, they might be sent home.

And so Master Lao had told them to rest for the night, and that in the morning he would explain how to start them gently on the path to harmony. Whatever that meant. The panda had only one spare room, but inside Kale found plenty of pillows to make some kind of a nest. He left some for Finnican, who had yet to file in, and had thrown himself onto the nest in a swirl of sensory overload. Kale had no real idea where in the world he was, he was about to sleep on some strange fluffy things, with a belly full of something that wasn't even fresh-kill, given to him by a Panda. All this combined with the fading lamplight could have driven Kale mad, but instead he couldn't help cracking a helpless smile.

What the heck is going on? The Peregrine Falcon's smile turned into a grin, and then a chuckle, until he could barely keep in his laughter any longer.

With new toys he had found tucked under a wing, Finnican walked into the room with a confused look on his face. He stopped inside the doorway and stared at the laughing falcon for a solid minute.

"Did I miss something?" he asked Kale with a tilt of his head. His eyes swiveled across the room as if looking for what might've caused his unfun companion to be dying of laughter. "Seriously, you okay dude?"

"...Ya. We did." To be honest, the bear in the cloak seemed to fit right in with all the strangeness the amnesiac falcon had experienced so far. But instead of saying that, Finnican looked to the side with his cheeks puffed out in awkward silence. After a moment he grabbed one of the things under his wing. "Look what I found!"
Finnican held out a patterned purple paper windmill for Kale to see. Then he leaned forward and blew into it's side. The patterns caused cool visual effects as the windmill spun. Meanwhile, Fin looked to Kale with childish excitement, expecting the other to be delighted as him.

Kale listened quietly to the un-phased falcon, his laughter slowly stopping and his seriousness returning for all but a moment. He blinked and turned his head on the pillow enough to see what Fin was holding, genuine curiosity in his eyes. "Where did you get that?"

"In a room with other stuff like this. Look, I got you one too!"
Finnican opened his wing as he grabbed a green windmill. At the same time, an orange origami crane that he had also been holding with his wing fell to the floor. He stared down at it until recognition sparked in his eyes a second later. "Oh! That's another thing I found in that room! I don't know why it is, but it looks cool!" After scooping the crane back up, he went over to Kale and held the paper crafts out to him.

Kale curiously took the windmill from Fin's wings, rolling over so he was back on his back. He held the little paper windmill up to his face in his talons and blew gently into it to make it spin, the smile creeping back into his face.

He's actually smiling!

Finnican watched Kale, his eyes practically sparkling in pride.

Fin, +1!

Some time later, when Kale had exhausted Finnican's supply of distractions, the falcon rolled back to his side to watch the stars and sleep. Before he finally dozed off however, he muttered to Finnican, unsure if he was even awake to hear it. "... I actually had a little fun today."

A thick veil of sleep pulled over his eyes before he could work out if Fin heard or answered him from where the other bird lay across the room. Perhaps it was the exhaustion of travel, the confusion of being teleported, or the strangeness of the land... but Kale didn't hate Finnican quite so much just then. Perhaps by morning the resentment would start to wane. Perhaps not.

Finnican's eyes snapped open at those words and he looked over to Kale in shock. As the moments passed, his eyes got figuratively brighter and brighter.

PROGRESS!!!

All starry-eyed with comedic tears in his eyes, the falcon was practically bursting with joy.

"Same here dude! Same here!" he sniffled.

He would be cheering to himself for the next little while before finally going to sleep.

Kale's eyes snapped open, the dim room around him out of focus for nearly a minute. After some time, the creeping light of twilight swept into the room, and the falcon was able to discern that it was just before dawn. He lay unmoving, having forgotten just where he was from the events of the day before. His breathing was soft, keeping quiet as he tried to focus on the room. Something had woken him from his sleep, but he wasn't sure what. His feathers tingled in the dark. Some noise had brought him from sleep. Kale stayed deathly silent as he listened to every sound around him... and then he heard it.

His body relaxed as another of Fin's snoring echoed throughout the room. Kale breathed a sigh of relief.

And Fin continued to sleep, snoring soundly as he did. He would be out for at least another hour or so.

(I have part of a dream sequence saved somewhere for him to go through. He'll wake up from it later. Unless Kale or Master Lao decide to wake him up at dawn, in which case he'll just do that later XD)
