Three shades left

Wildwing

It's wing was severed, but the shade clinging to Tyrin's back seemed to ignore this and continued stabbing at the King's back.

The shade Lieuna and dodged, now close to Tyrin, used this opportunity to latch on the inside of his right leg and began biting and tearing there.

Drathema gave a low hiss at the sudden pain the creature caused and roughly brought his beak down towards shade's lower spine and crushing it just as he started to fling him off, throwing him back down towards other shade while feeling his neck itch with the few scratches and cuts the bird had left on it. In that same moment, he turned his attention back towards the other shade and lunged towards him in one fluid motion.

Now with two shades on him again, Tyrin roared in anger and took off several meters above the others and their fight. Once he was confident he was out of the line of fire, he tossed his pair of swords up even higher into the sky and spun in a fiery circle, his flames dying out and his Phoenix form ending. The two shades fell off of his body from where they had been, him now being much smaller. Now free, Tyrin dove downwards and spun back up to face his falling swords. He caught one in each talon and shifted forms again. As this occurred, the two swords changed size to meet his explosive transformation, putting them right in the path of the falling shades and cutting right through them both.

Draethema killed the one that was on his neck. The one he had shoved had attack Lieuna, and then latched onto Tyrin's leg)

The remaining two were on Tyrin. But now I want to know. Did Lieuna manage to kill the one on his back before Tyrin did that awesome move? Or was he too fast for her?)

With the last of the aerial shades dispatched, Tyrin took a moment to breathe and flew back to his assembled guard, searching for injuries. During this time, on the ground....

The brown panther had seen the spring-board move coming in time to brace herself and even give Raiya a little boost to her jump. She only smirked at the She-Wolf in reply. Then, at the sight of the three approaching tiger shades, she hissed and rejoined Raiya with the rest of their surviving unit.

Having cleared the low skies of bird shades, Rinka flew back to one of the building's top openings. One of the eagles guarding it from just inside gave her a brief report upon her request. The shade that had managed to get inside had killed five animals and wounded eight, but it had been put down. The building was secure on the inside for now. Satisfied, Rinka shot down over the building.

As the tiger shades drew nearer, the Queen swooped in behind Raiya's unit and hovered in place with her talons barely grzing the ground. She stared down at those shades with an intimidating sterness to her face.
The trio of tigers spoke in unison with their gravel-like voices. "Your hope dies this day, bird queen.... your sky fires can't undo the death we have already brought... "
While they spoke, Raiya held her head high. With Rinka above her and the others doing well nearby, she was inspired to hold her ground despite the taunts.

In reply, Rinka shot the middle tiger with a bear-sized fireball. Afterward, she lifted higher into the air, a command ringing from her beak as she eyed the oncoming forces.

"There are 16 enemies remaining. They come in small groups, but they come quickly. Divide into groups, at least 7 allies to 1 enemy. You have my support until their forces arrive in larger numbers."

With 3 shades-the two remaining tigers and the wolf shade close to being beaten by the unit on the right-battle would have already ensued during her command. But her words were loud and clear for her subjects in the area to hear.

As soon as Rinka finished, the two tigers leapt at the animals in front of them, one narrowly missing Raiya as she side-stepped away from the pounce. She backed away as the tiger approached and waited for her allies to put out the fires.

At that moment, the wolf shade several meters away was finally killed. A female eagle picked up the paddle from her fallen ally and headed for the main unit with the rest of the survivors of her unit.

In the main unit, the wolf with the paddle leapt forward to hit the tiger that had attacked the animals away from Raiya. But like the strike of a serpent, the tiger slashed the wolf across his face. That wolf, with wounds from his neck to his snout immediately cauterized, was knocked several feet back. The paddle flew out of his mouth and hit the ground off to the side.

Meanwhile, the she-bird dove and smacked the tiger near Raiya in the back of the head with her newly acquired paddle while the rest of her unit either helped distract the other tiger, or joined the defensive line that had formed around the entrances to the building.

Raiya took advantage of the tiger's shock of pain from the silver and barreled into him. She avoided the snapping of his jaws and gave it the bite it desired by headbutting the shade in the mouth. This stunned the tiger long enough for Raiya to bite into his upper chest and start tearing.

The brown panther, Karna, joined Raiya by pouncing on the tiger's back and clawing into the throat above Raiya's head from behind. Together, the wolf and the panther had torn this vital area beyond repair.

(Eco, Crow! Do you guys have/want to create ground animals to help out here?) (You can also control a bunch of background characters to kill off/kill shades/do whatever!)

Raiya stood back and shook the blood off her muzzle, nodding in thanks to Karna and looking for the next shade they could take down. It didn't take long, as another group of shade wolves rushed towards one of the building's entrances. The she-wolf scooped the leftover paddle up in her jaws and made a break for the first wolf.

With no time to lose, the eagle swerved back above the land animals, circled once, and dove at the second tiger with her paddle ready to smack it.

"YYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!" Dot, the tiny American Kestrel shot past the eagle right after she had put out the fires and slashed the second tiger across the neck with her small but very sharp talons. With several arteries slashed, the tiger was all but doomed.

With her war cry still fresh in the air, Dot turned and banked right into another shade, this one still a flaming wolf. Without any hesitation, her crazed eyes locked onto the wolf and Dot swung her satchel full of mail high over head, mercilessly smacking the shade's head.

Karna, two wolves, and two birds followed and then flanked Raiya. The 3 shade wolves were running in a crooked line, one ahead of the other.
A growing light overhead was the only warning they had when a fireball crashed down in between the two shades behind the leading one, killing the one in the back and temporarily incapacitating the one in the middle.

The eagle and the animals dealing with this tiger stared in shock after this tiny bird that was seemingly on a rampage.

What the heck?? they were literally all thinking. Then the eagle went after her.
Meanwhile, even though the tiger was bleeding out the last of its life, the rest of the animals didn't want to risk letting it heal. So they tore its throat out once, and then followed after the eagle.

The wolf shade's head jolted down at the smack. Then she lifted it back up and glared at Dot, who's satchel was now on fire. With a snarl, she leapt forward to chomp the tiny bird, only to be smacked again. This time in the face with a paddle of silver.

You're doing good, little gal, the eagle, now in front of Dot, sighed mentally in spite of herself.

Without missing a beat, as soon as the shade fires were put out, Dot put out the smoldering fires starting on her satchel by swatting at the shade wolf again on the other side of the eagle.

Raiya at this time had reached the first of the shade wolves who had been attacked by Rinka. The one in the lead, she tripped with the silver paddle and put out his fires so another animal could finish it, before doing the same to the other wolf who had been hit by the edges of Rinka's fireball. This one, however, went right for Raiya, so she dropped the paddle and went for the kill.

The eagle just deadpanned at Dot as the rest of her unit caught up and tackled the extinguished wolf shade before she could eat Dot. That shade was dead within seconds.

With the first of the shades fallen on its face with its fires out, Karna leapt to its side and grabbed the flesh at the nape of its neck in her jaw. As one of the other wolves went for its exposed neck, it managed to lunge forward, despite being in agony on its side, and crunched down on the side of his neck above his shoulder. Karna, without letting go, immediately sunk her claws into the shade's shoulders, and then sunk her jaws in the actual muscle in the shade's neck. As the panther tried to rip the shade's head off, the second wolf in their unit went under the one that was still being bitten and successfully buried her jaws in the shade's throat.

The second shade, its flames about to come back in the next few seconds, leapt at Raiya. But as it did so, the two birds with Raiya sped past her and grabbed the shades ears as they went behind its head. Doing so, they yanked the shade's up, its throat now exposed.

Raiya took the opportunity and made short work of the shade with their help.

As she did, a shade jaguar crept out of the rubble a few feet away, it's fires brightening as it came closer. Just as it readied to pounce, and began to soar through the air towards Karna-- two gold swords swung through it's midsection and split the beast.

Tyrin curved and shot back up into the air, Phoenix Guard beside him, and began to pick off the others he could find. Every part of him fought to stay focused on the battle, to protect anyone he could... but he knew Rinka was nearby. She had perhaps even seen him already, though he wondered if she could see through his helmet. If she still recognized his eyes. If she would know his voice.... What would he even say? He focused on his dive instead of giving it any more thought, choosing a shade wolf towards the back of the clearing.

*cheers* )

Karna's shade was dead, but it had taken effort to release its jaws from her wolf ally. The panther and the other she-wolf realized too late that they should have left it alone. For now with nothing to block the blood flow, the male wolf was losing his life in a steady flow of red. Karna hissed to herself as the the she-wolf tried to stem the bleeding with her own paws, but she knew-even if the bleeding was the only problem-he wouldn't make it.
At the thuds behind her, Karna spun around to see what had become of the shade panther that was seconds from killing her. She looked after the Phoenix with the golden swords in awe.

The moment the other Phoenix joined the ground battle, Rinka knew her air support would no longer be necessary. Her gaze followed the lead, armored Phoenix with the dual swords for a solid moment before the Queen turned and sped for the fires in the near North.
Though she could not see them through his helmet, she remembered his eyes. Reflections of the western skies as the sun's light lingered, as if embracing the world with a warm goodnight. That was how she had made herself to remember when her sun failed to rise in the east again.
The memory of his voice had faded with each passing day. But she could not truly forget it. Not when she would wake to it every so often during the nights even years after his passing, expecting to see him laying by her side only to realize it was a cruel trick of her mind.
The connection she had felt in the moment of that Phoenix' arrival. It was undoubtedly him. She should be happy. She should be crying with overwhelming joy. But...

She slammed her talons on a patch of violet flames, crushing down on it until it was suffocated. She left it for another flame, leaving behind a smoldering patch devoid of life.

As the twisting fires of the Phoenix Guard descended from the sky all around her, Raiya slowed to a halt in her fighting. Each time she moved to fight another shade, a firebird from above would swoop in and destroy them. The shades on the ground never stood a chance against these new allies, Raiya surmised. She slowed to a jog and then stopped in the center of the clearing. There were a few fights still going on around her, and some flames left to be put out, but the battle was beginning to turn quiet again. Some of the animals around had begun to lick their wounds or call for help.

The she-wolf watched the skies as the Phoenix Guard began finishing their work, but was pulled away from her awestruck gazing by the sight of Karna and the bleeding wolf beside her. There were more wounded in every corner of her vision, and her body slowly depleted it's adrenaline supply as she realized it was time to start helping the wounded rather than fight.

(Battle's not totally over, but she can feel it's winding down. Only a few shades left in the whole city.)

Drathema swooped low towards the further end of the section the Phoenix Guard were covering to rid the place of such dark vermin, grabbing several shades and crushing them beneath his talons before letting them fall to the ground lifelessly. He watched the few groups that remained amongst the mostly indefensible creatures hiding or fleeing from the shades who were still managing to put a fight, sweeping in low in just the same manner and crushing them too, from panthers ranging to bears who were corrupted, lacking any type of physical vessel fit for any amount of compassion or nicety.

A tornado of orange flames swirled around a particularly large violet fire. With every turn, it enclosed on this fire, reaching higher into the sky as it stretched into a beanpole, until dispersing into nothing. Rinka let out a long breath, the heat waves a brief distortion in the expelled air. With no other fires in sight, she flew back to the fallen skyscraper.
The Queen flew low to the ground. Though she passed by many figures of fur and feather alike, there were no cries for help. There was no breath nor heartbeat. There was no life.
The Phoenix lifted her blank gaze forward as she neared her destination. There, finally, she saw life. That was what she would choose to focus on for now.

When she landed on the sloped face of the skyscraper near the base, she saw that her people were already being organized. While the newcomer Phoenix continued picking off the last of the shades, the wounded were being brought to the grounds in front of the building. Several animals among the wounded rushed around placing colored tags of different shapes on the wounded's heads, marking them by priority for the healers. Though there were a good number of greens and yellows, she saw far too many reds and blacks.

Outside the area of the wounded, groups of animals in good condition were being gathered. These groups were so small compared to the wounded that among the wounded, those marked with green were being rounded up as well. One of those doing the gathering was a female black bear that Rinka recognized. This black bear turned towards the Queen and both locked eyes for a moment. The Phoenix then dipped her head, to which the bear nodded in reply.

"The battle may be won, but do not let your guard down for one second!" the black bear bellowed after raising to her hind legs, "In your units, you will search the city for survivors. Unit leaders, others, you know the drill. Take the wounded you find to the station nearest them. Charge hard and may you find many of our own in safety!"

The groups let out a shout in unison before splitting into their units, charging through the city in separate directions.

Raiya stuck by Karna though she listened to the black bear's instructions. As she didn't technically belong to any fighting unit, she decided to remain for now and help those around. And honestly, she wanted to know more about the new Phoenix that had come to help. She wasn't the only one either. Many of the animals, even some of the wounded, managed to turn and watch the Guard finish their work. As the last of the Shades fell, some of the Phoenix made their way to the ground, looking to the armored one for commands. The animals in the clearing backed away as the Phoenix started coming down, making room. Even some who were supposed to be leaving to search for survivors paused to watch. Some watched them land in fear, wondering if they were even really allies. Some watched in wonder. And for some reason, Raiya noted many of the birds were acting strange as well, almost mesmerized. Raiya herself couldn't look away as the lead bird touched down beside the rest. There was something about him... A million questions ran through her mind. She thought all the other Phoenix were dead. She knew about Queen Rinka's family, but they were gone, surely? Then she looked up to her Queen and saw the look in her eyes...

That's him... That's Rinka's... Raiya took her eyes off the Phoenix and murmured to Karna, "Is that... ?"
